Aside from family vacations on majoy highways through Nevada, this was my first real exposure to the desert, when friend Andrew introduced me to camping on BLM lands during this four day trek.

  

After getting around the sierras and all the closed snow passes, we took a left at Mono Lake and headed for no-man's land.

Some rock jumbles and great view of White Mountains along 120 near Benton Crossing.

Also the first time I really noticed the giant alluvial fans that rise from the desert floor up to the mountains.

Hotel (above) and cemetery (below) at Goldfield, which is almost a ghost town except for a few holdouts.
