The weekend of May 17-18 2002 took Andrew, Laura and I to the fairly mind-blowing Pinnacles National Monument in
central California near King City. It has a desert-like quality we are all aficionados of.
The first hike on arrival day at the east entrance starts out up a little canyon
that, in a fairly disorienting way, turns into a cave, then a stairway, then reveals itself to be a rock dam
hiding a reservoir...
Then we head on up to higher elevations for more desert like terrain, with the
occasional bizarre rock formation ...
And a first look back at the main pinnacles ridge that we will explore on day two.
