Higher up, the view opens up to reveal the distant ridges that are on the San Andreas fault. That fault is the reason for the drama at Pinnacles ... geologic material from hundreds of miles to the south were shoved north over millennia to create this chaos.

  

 

  

We reach our goal at the top of Chalone Peak North, where an old fire lookout station stands guard.

Visability was relatively good. Here's the big picture. The peak at near right is our next goal.

  

 

 

  

Had to take a picture of the bathroom that I couldn't believe they built up here, then on to the Chalone Peak South.

 

  

We didn't make it to the top of the opressively steep South Peak, technically, but almost, and saw lots of cool rocks and lichen.
