Mighty Mission Peak is completely dwarfed.

  

When Mt. Diablo comes into view I really start getting dizzy. It's about 50' taller than Rose Peak, but out there in its island state it somehow feels lower. I was contemplating turning back but this sight kept me going.

 

 

At the top at last! The atmospheric haze had built during the hike, but it was better than the fog that usually obliterates everything in Bay Area summers. Here are my attempts to point out landmarks.

 

Even though I knew the parameters of the hike, it didn't really sink in until the return leg that I was basically doing the equivallent of hiking to the top of Mt. Diablo (from town) in the middle of summer. No way! So ... I did it again 9 months later! Only this time from a different direction. Check the link below to see how it was both better AND worse:
