Here is a view of the White Mountains from my first desert trek back in 1999. A few years later I got inspired to hike the peak (14,000 feet), after learning it is non-technical (no granite or climbing) and the trailhead begins at 11,000 feet.

Here is a view of the White Mountain peak from the Von's parking lot in Bishop, California. The range starts in Owen's Valley, east of the Sierras, then runs NE diagonally into Nevada. (Spoiler warning: I didn't make it to the top, but it was still great.)

After camping at 9,000 feet at Ancient Bristlecone National Monument, you can drive up past the visitor's center about 12 miles on rough roads to 11,000 feet.
